![]() “The New Works Initiative's 10-10 Play Festival is unique in the way that we focus on local writers in our community. This year's festival is particularly important as we are presenting 5 plays written by local high school students. We are very excited to give these students a platform for their voices to be heard as well as the opportunity to work with a creative team that will bring their words to life on stage.” Sandra Brunell Neace, Co-Director of Good Luck Macbeth’s New Works Initiative. GLM's New Works Initiative is a program that honors and produces new and original work each season. “It is our mission to spotlight playwrights, and their work, from across the nation. Each season we give one new work a full production as part of GLM's season and we produce two staged readings. The program helps us to connect with artists all over the country and even internationally.” Two of the original plays produced at GLM, Raquel Lopez's In Our Own Backyard and Greg Burdick's Monessen Falls, have both received publication. “We feel excited and proud to be a part of those writers' journeys.” Neace adds. One thing Neace is looking forward to is celebrating local playwrights and hearing their stories. “It has been a particularly rough couple of years and it will be very interesting to see how our current times have influenced our writers and what stories the playwrights think are important to tell.” An accomplished actor, director and playwright, Neace offers this wisdom to aspiring writers, “Keep writing. Surround yourself with writers. Even if you write 15 minutes a day because that is all you can do - well, that will add up. Just keep going.” Sandy will be hosting the Playwright’s Workshop on Saturday, June 18th at 10am. It is a wonderful chance for students and young writers to come exercise their skills. “I am coming off a playwriting residency that I attended in Louisville, Kentucky and I feel energized and excited to share things that I learned. I always bring fun to the classroom and this workshop will be no different. All writers should participate in workshops like this because it is important to surround yourself with inspiration and to always be working on your craft.” Tickets to the 10-10 Festival are available here.
