Welcome to ELEVATE
Good Luck Macbeth's capital campaign to buy the building we currently occupy in the heart of Midtown Reno at 124 W. Taylor Street!

Our vision is to elevate this community by creating an arts center that can serve all of Reno. We will renovate the building, adding more spaces that are accessible to all artists and community members. We are a community theatre, but we are first and foremost a community of artists and citizens, and we challenge each and every one of you to join us.

For the past 14 years, Good Luck Macbeth has aimed to create relevant and impactful works of art that demonstrate the transformative power of theatre and create opportunities for artists to express their truest authentic selves, both on and off the stage in Northern Nevada. The time has come for our next chapter and we have big plans! We are excited to announce the beginning of Elevate, GLM’s capital campaign to buy the building we currently occupy in the heart of Midtown and become a permanent fixture in the area.

For the past five years Good Luck Macbeth has resided at 124 W. Taylor Street in a building that has a rich history all its own. The original parcel of land was owned by the infamous Baron Von Brenner, a TV hypnotist who once hypnotized the entire Reno City Council in the 1950s as part of a marketing campaign for a new Television program which showcased B-Horror movies. Brenner sold the land to the Musicians Union who broke ground on site in 1961. The building was created to be a rehearsal and concert hall for union musicians that played in big band and jazz orchestras in the 1960s. In the 1980s the building was sold to a local business briefly serving as a live music venue before eventually becoming home to a printing firm. Good Luck Macbeth acquired a five-year rental agreement for the space in 2017 and moved in at the beginning of 2018. As part of GLM’s move into the space, the company invited the Reno Jazz Orchestra to join as subleases – a direct choice to honor the history of the building.

GLM has invested many hours and financial resources renovating one side of the interior of the building to create an eighty-two-seat theatre space, with movie theatre style seats for fifty-eight, table seating in the front that includes complimentary Champagne, and twelve accessible seats, a licensed bar area, and dressing room space in the basement. Patrons now enjoy six mainstage productions a year with four additional smaller theatrical events, along with Reno Jazz Orchestra concerts and other community events.  The building also contains a small office space, rehearsal room, and kitchen, along with two bathrooms.

Purchasing the building will represent a monumental step for Good Luck Macbeth, yet we see it as an opportunity beyond simply owning the space, but the chance to create something truly special: to build a legacy for artists and the theatre and music community.

The arts create opportunities for young people, entice people to visit neighborhoods, and generate positive economic impacts on the community. It is incredibly important to keep the arts alive in Midtown and within the City of Reno because of its high value on the community.

One way to do that is to create stability for arts organizations through ownership of spaces. Internally, owning our space would allow GLM to begin the process of moving staff from part-time to full-time. This would have a massive impact for the organization as it would more than double the human capacity of the company. The purchase of the building would also benefit our tenant, Reno Jazz Orchestra (RJO), who we intend to offer a longer-term lease, and other arts organizations in our community that do not have rehearsal or teaching facilities. Additionally, it would support individual artists in our community who are looking for small rehearsal and teaching spaces offered at affordable rates.

Take a look at our upcoming plans for the building!
