New Works Initiative

The GLM search for New Works is on!

What if there was a yearlong, nationwide theater festival featuring work generated by those who have historically been excluded - including but not limited to artists of color, Native American and Indigenous and First Nations artists, women, non-binary and gender non-conforming artists, LGBTQIA2+ artists, Deaf artists, and artists with disabilities?

In 2021 there will be.

In order to address inequity in theater in our community and across the country, Good Luck Macbeth Theater’s 2021 Season is committed to supporting a manifestation of the JUBILEE's desire. GLM will examine plays written by people who have been marginalized within the dominant framework of theater, and then place as many of those voices as possible at the center of our programming for the 2021 season.

This starts with The New Works Initiative. Each year GLM’s New Works Initiative accepts submissions from playwrights across the world.  We will take submissions of original plays, that fall under the guidelines of Jubilee, through March 15, 2020. One play will be chosen and receive a full production.

There is a $10 submission fee.  This fee goes directly to the administrative costs of the New Works Initiative.

Submission Guidelines

  • The play AND playwright must fit in within the Jubilee guidelines.  Please follow the link above for further details.
  • GLM Theater accepts original plays that are full-length and long one acts with a run time of at least 80 minutes.
  • GLM’s stage space is 24’ deep, 35’ across, and the ceiling is 13’4” – So we ask that you submit plays that our space can accommodate.
  • Cast size should not exceed 10 (without doubling).
  • You may submit an original or adapted work, provided the rights to any material not in the public domain have been granted in writing and a copy of the release is sent along with the script.
  • A writer may submit only one play each year.
  • Incomplete submissions will not be accepted.
  • Please submit your play as a PDF document.

Submissions Must Include:

  • A cover letter, including your contact information, that states the production history of the play and how you feel it fits into the mission statement of our theater and JUBILEE
  • The script
  • A cast breakdown
  • A list of detailed production/technical requirements. If your play has multi-media elements please give a description, or some samples, of how that will work.
If your play is not selected for a full-scale production we may consider it for a staged reading at some point in our season. Please let us know in your cover letter if this is something that you are interested in.
Submissions have been closed for 2021 NWI.
